Inappropriate Things Kids Say, Vol. 6

Mrs. Anderson, whenever I have a stomach egg, I go to the bathroom a lot.  It's pretty gross.
********************
A six-year-old, on his way out of my classroom, backtracks, and instead of leaving, he sits down in my desk chair.  You know, one of those big, black leather things that makes one look important?  He says "Mrs. Anderson, you're fired.  Ahhhh...it feels good to be the boss."  Perhaps he's been watching too much of The Apprentice?
 ********************
Me: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Student 1: "I want to be a cop so I can shoot bad guys."
Me: "You know, a policeman's job isn't really to shoot bad guys."
Student 2: "You're not allowed to shoot people, unless they steal stuff from you and get away outside, THEN you can shoot them."
Student 1: "Okay, then, I guess I want to be a bad guy."
Me: "No you don't!"
Student 1: "I guess not.  I guess I really want to be a white man*."
*As I'm sure you may have guessed, white is not the skin color of this particular student.

Grammy Fashion Wrap-Up

The Grammy awards are a laid back, fun evening to celebrate the music industry.  I'm afraid that the death of Whitney Houston cast such a pall on the night that people left their hotel rooms without checking a mirror first.  Yikes.  I was uninspired by the evening's fashion, so I did not bother to look up designers- nonetheless, here is a rundown of some of the hits and misses!

ICK:

Alicia Keys.  I hate it when someone ruins a look with bad accessorizing.  This LBD is fantastic, but that necklace looks like a warrior's breastplate.  No, thank you.

Alison Krauss.  Is that an oversized lace doily draped over her shoulders, concealing the top half of a dress that was clearly caught in a shredder?

Robyn.  I don't know who this person is, but I do know that those shoes are the worst thing to hit the red carpet since Lady Gaga's egg last year.

Taraji P. Henson.  Shiny animal print?  Baby pink halter top?  Ick.

Nicki Minaj.  Why, Nicki?  Why?

Rebecca Black.  REBECCA BLACK?  WHY is she there?  Her Internet crap was SO 2011.  Also, she looks stupid.

HUZZAH!:

Giuliana Rancic looks smokin' hot.  For a woman who just recently underwent a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction, she sure does look confident and glamorous on the red carpet.  I salute you, Giuliana.

Julianne Hough.  The detailing on this gown gives it the edge that it needs for Grammy night.

Kate Beckinsdale.  Love the ponytail, love the creamy color, love the draping, love the length.  Well done.

Kathy Griffin.  For once, I do believe that she won't end up on a  "Worst Dressed" list.

Paris Hilton.  Why she is even AT the Grammy's, I have no idea.  But I love the gold detailing and cap sleeves on this gown.

WINNER WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER.  Adele did it right.  Simple, elegant, classy.  I adore her signature red lips and big hair.  This look may be a touch matronly on someone else, but I think its perfect for this Grammy darling.  Incidentally, I haven't been able to get "Someone Like You" out of my head since Sunday night.

Question Marks:
Fergie.  I don't inherently hate this see-through dress.  I'm just not sure I love the bright orange/black combo.  Too Halloweenish?

Katy Perry.  This dress had great potential.  I don't mind all of the blueness.  I DO mind the lack of a good bra.  For shame, Katy.

He Walks

I think today is the day that the nugget has finally realized that he can walk.

Lately, he has been taking increasing numbers of steps here and there.  But as soon as he realized what he was doing, he would quickly grab onto something in a panic.  Today, he passed the four step mark and kept on going.  He occasionally lets out a giggle of pride, as he realizes that he is walking.

Here is the best few steps I've been able to capture thus far!  My cute little walker.

Movie Review: Captain America

Yes, I know I'm really late on this one, and this movie has been released for-like-ever.  But I've just gotten around to watching it, so bear with me as I review.

I hate to admit it, but I like superhero movies.  Yep, I dig the X-Men and I think Batman is the coolest.  I enjoy this particular type of action movie.

So this whole Avengers-in-the-making sequence has been lots of fun.  Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and now Captain America have been introduced, leading up to the big day (May 4th) when they all come together.  Hulk? Entertaining.  Iron Man?  Tony Stark is one of the best characters ever.  Thor?  Meh.

Captain America falls somewhere above Thor, but falls well below Iron Man.
I liked the concept here.  I mean, it doesn't get much better than an attractive, brave soldier kicking a bunch of Nazi ass.  But the cheese factor was a little much for me.

If I saw one more motorcycle bursting through a fiery inferno and flying through the air, I just might have lost my lunch.

But I did appreciate the intermingling of movies and the inclusion of some Iron Man back story (can you tell that one is my favorite?).  As Captain America took place during the 1940's, we got a little peek into how all of this Avenger's nonsense got started.  Fun stuff.

All in all, I'll give it a solid C+.  It was aaaright.  Not the best movie ever, but entertaining, and a necessary inclusion in the Avengers saga.
Can't wait to see all of these superheros kicking ass in one movie.  Bring on May 4th.

Goodbye, Morning Nap

As if the looming birthday isn't enough of a reminder that my baby is swiftly turning into a big boy...

We have forsaken the morning nap.
This is obviously not my sleeping baby, as I do not dare enter the wee one's lair whilst he sleeps.  That might lead to the breaking of the number one rule in the Anderson house: DON'T WAKE A SLEEPING BABY!
Lately, it has seemed like G would take a decent morning nap, but struggle to fall asleep in the afternoon.  Or sometimes at either nap time, he would seem, well, un-tired.  I began to suspect that it may be time to move to one nap a day.

Wait, what?  All of the books and magazines and blogs and all of the Interwebs told me that this doesn't happen until baby is 15-18 months old!  Well, all of the Interwebs just may be a liar.

As is the case with every single baby-related thing, there is always that kid who just won't conform to the norm.  It looks like when it comes to napping, G is ahead of the curve.

So this week (while I am at tracked out and at home- SQUEE!) we will be going through the growing pains of dropping a nap.  The plan?  Keep baby busy, busy, busy.  As long as the boy is occupied all morning, we seem to be in good shape.  This means lots of visits to the park!  You can find us there.

Half-Time Extraordinaire

What can I say?  Madonna- WOWZA!

Watched last night's Super Bowl Half-Time show on YouTube this morning.  (You know I didn't see it live- thank God for the Interwebs.)  Madonna?  Awesome.  Singing, dancing, cheering, tumbling acrobat style across the stage.  She is 53 years old.  What the what?!?!
I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the performance.  The best half-time that I recall in the past several years.

Too bad MIA (whoever that is) had to flip the bird and stir up more half-time controversy.  Sad for Madge that she now has that cloud over her otherwise stellar show.

Feeling a little forlorn that I missed out on all the funny commercials last night.  Looks like I have some more YouTubing to do this afternoon.
